More Proof That the Music In-duh-stry Hates Us

As if this weren't proof enough, there is yet more evidence of the Music In-duh-stry's hatred for us. (Maybe they just think we're stupid?) It's called the ringle! That's right, ringle. "ringtone" + "single" = ringle The ringle is going to be a $7.00 CD available in-store only and will consist of three songs (song, remix of song, some other song) plus a ringtone. We imagine you won't be able to cram the ringtone into your phone by any physical means and ringle purchasers will probably be required to download some bullshit software and upload some other trifling mess to get the ringle to "ring."

Yes, we know. They hate us.

What did we do to deserve this kind of treatment? OK, so we burned some copies of some songs last year. And shoplifted Hilary Duff CD's and sold them in middle school parking lots. And pirated Taylor Hicks's album to finance our trip to the Czech Republic. But other than that, we've been pretty good supporters of the starving musician superstar. I'm Not Sure How I Feel About Mark Ronson

I spent much of this past holiday weekend huffing, living out loud, and watching MTV. (Kidding about the huffing! This is 2007, people and I have asthma.) I really did watch a lot of MTV,

however, and I noticed that Mark Ronson must be paying those savvy programmers lots of money to bookend every show with his songs. The Smiths cover, "Stop Me," is pretty interesting, but I had to think reeeeeally hard about deciding to like his cover of Radiohead's "Just." Radiohead covers are kind of like child pageants. I need a reggae version of Paranoid Android (Radiodread, come on!) like a baby needs a spray tan. And a couple of Eastern Music Festivals ago, I listened to some dude banging out his favorite Radiohead songs on a piano- it made my butt hurt.

That said, I might like the Mark Ronson cover since it doesn't make me want to stab anyone. Despite my own karaoke butchering of "Optimistic" (I was too drunk to know what I was doing and what the hell kind of karaoke director makes "Optimistic" the only Radiohead song in the playlist anyway?!?), Radiohead is still kind of sacrosanct- they are above both criticism and covers! In the end though, I'm not sure I even care enough to come down on one side or the other.

Because I can't stand keeping the plague of simulacra all to myself, and because I care about you, the reader, I'm gonna post the video for "Just."

What do you think- "meh" or "marv?"

Vocabularian Exposure: eww gross

An "interesting" post on ginger root has been added to Wikipedia. It has no references or sources, so it was probably posted by a weirdo who has a thing for pan-asian cuisine.

But those are our favorite kind of weirdos. Maybe Maury will do a show on it!
