I'm Not Sure How I Feel About Mark Ronson

I spent much of this past holiday weekend huffing, living out loud, and watching MTV. (Kidding about the huffing! This is 2007, people and I have asthma.) I really did watch a lot of MTV,

however, and I noticed that Mark Ronson must be paying those savvy programmers lots of money to bookend every show with his songs. The Smiths cover, "Stop Me," is pretty interesting, but I had to think reeeeeally hard about deciding to like his cover of Radiohead's "Just." Radiohead covers are kind of like child pageants. I need a reggae version of Paranoid Android (Radiodread, come on!) like a baby needs a spray tan. And a couple of Eastern Music Festivals ago, I listened to some dude banging out his favorite Radiohead songs on a piano- it made my butt hurt.

That said, I might like the Mark Ronson cover since it doesn't make me want to stab anyone. Despite my own karaoke butchering of "Optimistic" (I was too drunk to know what I was doing and what the hell kind of karaoke director makes "Optimistic" the only Radiohead song in the playlist anyway?!?), Radiohead is still kind of sacrosanct- they are above both criticism and covers! In the end though, I'm not sure I even care enough to come down on one side or the other.

Because I can't stand keeping the plague of simulacra all to myself, and because I care about you, the reader, I'm gonna post the video for "Just."

What do you think- "meh" or "marv?"

it's a bit better than a spray tan on a baby.

it's all coming back to you now, isn't it? i still blame the damn karaoke director. no one should be able to sing that song to a room full of people!
